I worked for many years as a reporter and sub-editor on local newspapers in the sleepy English countryside. While I loved my work, it could at times be a little dull. Planning appeals and village fetes do lose their lustre after a while. About two years ago, I decided to pack my bags and set off in search of the promised land that is freelance travel journalism. While I do miss picking up a regular salary, the people I’ve met and things I’ve seen along the way more than make up for having a few less quid. Favourite countries visited so far include Ethiopia, Colombia and Wales.
